Greater Baltimore’s proximity to federal agencies
facilitates drug approvals, but the region has many other resources to offer biosciences companies as well. For example, a strong local support network for the industry includes bioparks, science-focused incubators and tech councils. In Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore is home to the country’s No. 1 research institution based on National Institutes of Health (NIH) awards. In 2016 alone, the university received more than $650 million from the NIH.
