SPOTLIGHT
Abe
Hashim
Class of 2022
What is your specialty?
Orthodontics. The reason I chose
it is because orthodontics is the
only health care specialty that
can move a body part (a tooth)
without surgery. Moving teeth
and the physics behind it is
fascinating, and the resulting
smiles are rewarding.
Where are you currently
practicing?
I’m at Touro College
of Dental Medicine in
Orthodontics Residency.
What have you done between
graduation and now?
I completed one year of General
Practice Residency at Northwell
Long Island Jewish Medical
Center, and now I’m a second
year orthodontics resident at
TCDM.
Favorite part about attending
TCDM?
The technology. Tech has
revolutionized the way dental
schools educate students and
TCDM is no exception. Digital
impressions, 3D printing, and
CAD/CAM systems are used
daily at TCDM, providing
students with a more immersive
and effective learning experience.
My favorite class was Anatomy.
Orthodontists primarily deal
with the teeth and jaws, which
are integral parts of the facial
structure. A deep understanding
of head and neck anatomy is
crucial for treating patients,
especially with recognizing and
treating craniofacial anomalies.
What advice would you give
first-year TCDM students?
There are a lot of opportunities at
TCDM waiting to be taken
advantage of as a dental student,
and even now as I go through my
residency. Work hard and take
advantage to better yourself, it all
pays back!
