W.G.N. (Cap) Rukert and his brother George borrow $800 to purchase a moving truck and start the
Atlas Safe Deposit & Storage Company.
After expanding into the stevedoring business,
the Rukert brothers buy a waterfront terminal in Fells Point from McCormick
& Company, naming it Jackson’s Wharf.
Cap and George dissolve their partnership
and separate ventures.
Cap retains the waterfront operation and names it
The Rukert Terminals Corporation.
Needing room to grow, Rukert Terminals begins a 99-year lease with the Pennsylvania Railroad for their Pier 5 facility on the Clinton Street waterfront in Canton.
To meet increased storage needs, Rukert Terminals purchases Brown’s Wharf in Fells Point from the Western Maryland Railway.
