In 2012, Ritchie Bros. sold $3.9 billion
of equipment at 328 auctions around the
world. The average Ritchie Bros. industrial
auction attracts 1,760 on-site and online
bidders and features 1,300 equipment
items and trucks from 190 sellers.
So, what are buyers looking for? A
couple of last year’s big ticket items
included a 2008 Liebherr 400-ton all-
terrain crane that sold for approximately
$2.1 million at an auction in France, and
a 2008 Caterpillar 777F 91-ton rock truck
that sold for approximately $1.3 million in
the Netherlands. The company has also
handled a few unique items, such as
passenger jets and hydrofoil ferry boats.
