Top: A Tigercat loader at work on land managed by RMS. Inset: Josh Lea, District Manager at RMS, discussing the importance of forest management with NCFA staff.
After our video tour at RMS offices, we loaded up in RMS trucks and went on a tour of the timber the company manages. We were able to watch tractors with v-shears working the land in advance of planting, and actually sit in one of those massive machines. We learned about
the importance of forest management, including thinning. We visited several timber sites to view stands that were 1.5 years old, eight years old, and then one at 14 years old.
I love when I have the opportunity to learn something new, and sometimes I’ll even admit I’m wrong. I was definitely wrong about what a TIMO actually does; there were no cocktails involved, but instead there was an abundance of family, commitment to the work, and a strong sense of responsibility for the environment RMS is lucky enough to keep watch over.
