move our timber products with trucks through rural areas. Getting truck drivers that are qualified and willing to work
in this environment is challenging. We have a limited number of these drivers because of insurance requirements around driving log trucks and the lack of younger individuals in the industry.
Q:What sustainability measures does your organization take?
A:Our commitment to environmental stewardship is evident in the
daily management of the woods we are responsible for. One of the many positives of our work here is the sustainable production of wood products that are environmentally friendly and store carbon for the duration
of their lifetime. Additionally, our forests provide other ecosystem services, such as wildlife habitat and clean water.
We are a long-established member company of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) — a forest certification program that ensures forests are managed sustainably. SFI combines the production
of commodity products with protecting soil, water, and wildlife. Everything we do has to be compliant with SFI standards. Foresters are not just here to sell timber
— we tend the forest and take pride and ownership of that responsibility. We are a natural-resources management company, so it is important to take care of the land we manage. On some properties, we’re certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) — an international nonprofit organization that promotes responsible management of the world’s forests. Finally, we subscribe to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI).
