“I didn’t realize clearcutting was separate from deforestation. Logging
companies go back in and replant and monitor the areas.”

“Waste is reduced. The land and water are cared for because those affect the management of the forest.”
“From the nursery to the manufacturing (paper mill), sustainability measures are utilized in all aspects.”
   Survey Shows SFTE’s Impact
Last summer, Director of Education Programs Jessica Ireland and Education Intern Abigail Ridge surveyed participating educators before and after the workshop. The results speak for themselves on the effectiveness of this workshop in helping people outside the industry understand sustainable forestry. By the end of the program, 100% of participants said they believe forestry is practiced sustainably in North Carolina, as opposed to the 53.8% that said yes prior to the program. Some quotes from teachers after attending the program included:
“The certifications, regulations, SFI, and all documentation requirements ensure the sustainability in forestry.”
