Sustainable Forestry
Teachers Experience
Since joining the NCFA in May, Director of Education Programs Jessica Ireland has been busy traveling around the state, meeting members, and preparing and leading
the 2022 Sustainable Forestry Teachers Experience (SFTE) alongside NCFA’s Education Intern, Abigail Ridge.
The SFTE is a four-day professional development workshop that engages North Carolina educators in gaining knowledge and awareness of North Carolina’s forests and forestry operations. This program builds skills and provides educators with resources to bring back to their classrooms. During the SFTEs,
educators participate in guided tours of North Carolina forests and forestry operations, explore sustainable forestry practices, experience Project Learning Tree (PLT) activities, receive PLT professional development, and network with natural resource professionals and other educators. The 2022 SFTEs took place June 13-16 in the piedmont, June 27-30 at the coast, and
July 11-14 in the mountains. ■
