superior seedlings to ensure that we are getting the greatest yields possible during harvests. Our forestlands are enrolled in the FSC certification and we implement best management practices in all of our management decisions. We also encourage private landowners to manage their personal forestlands following timber harvest to ensure healthy future forests.
Q: Are there economic reasons for taking these measures?
A: We believe that the value of an actively managed forest at the time
of harvest is several times that of one that isn’t managed. Troy has a high cost of site preparation and planting, but we have seen firsthand how this can increase the growth and value of our forest. We view the cost
of site prep, genetically superior seedlings, and intermediate stand treatments as an investment in our timberlands.
Q: How does your organization support the local community?
A: Our company has approximately 180 direct employees, most of which
live in our community. We support multiple other businesses, such as contract logging crews, trucking crews, and other local businesses. We give to many organizations, such as schools, law enforcement, first responders, and a host of other local charitable organizations throughout our community. It’s important we are good citizens of the municipality we work in and give back to the community that supports us.
