We have had some major successes this year. The Prior Authorization Bill, the Biasotto, was signed into law in July. With a joint effort, we were successful in preventing optometric scope expansion into surgery while reasonably increasing their abilities to make them more effective participants in the health care team. We were at the table advocating from the beginning of the negotiations for the Balance Billing legislation.
While we will soon have to inform our patients of their insurance participation, we helped prevent much more onerous alternatives that were proposed.
I have traveled to a few other states this year representing Delaware at Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia. While they are much bigger states than we, the discussions centered around many of the same problems. However, I was impressed that for
our smaller size, we are on par with,

innovative programs initiated this year to make your life easier, such as our MEP 401(k) plan and our new HR program, with more to come. We just enrolled Leadership Institute. We are working
to provide you with a new interactive website, making it easier to communicate with you and for you to interact with MSD and others in the electronic environment.
MSD has maintained relationships with the Hospital CEOs and reached out to their medical staff leaders this year
and will plan to continue to meet with them on a semiannual basis. We have continued to meet with the Geographic understand the needs of these diverse groups. I am hoping we continue to
build on these relationships to foster more community among our varied groups as we all face the challenges that are looming ahead for our profession we stand, divided we fall.”
On the following pages there are pictures of some of this year’s highlights. After all, every picture is worth a thousand words. They highlight some of the
events I’ve represented MSD at during the past 12 months and some important dedication of the William Duncan library, meeting with our federal and state legislators, our AMA delegation at the June meeting in Chicago, Dr. Permut speaking as Chairman of the Board of
the AMA, Dr. Ralph Zaragoza receiving the Humanitarian award at the AMA, the pictures allow me to share with you just a few of the noteworthy events. I will always look back fondly on this year happy that I was able to serve you and our Society. While we may be working hard as individuals, small and large groups, or as employed physicians, we must not lose sight of the fact that we are part of a larger community of physicians through our association in this Society, the Medical Society of Delaware. This is your organization; it is our organization.
Thank you for the great honor of allowing me to serve as President of the Thanks also to all of you who have regularly read my President’s page. I have heard from more than a few of you that you have found them helpful and have enjoyed reading them. It means I have accomplished my goal. I only hope I have helped make our Society more relevant to you this last year. I know I am leaving you in the capable hands of Dr. Prayus Tailor. Best wishes to Dr. Tailor as he assumes the new challenges ahead.
