We did a lot of that, and also . . . we were on Facebook, using multiple languages, closed captions and American Sign Language.”
“The main issue was how to keep
everyone safe and how to keep them at home where possible,” says LISA MAXWELL, MD, chief clinical transformation officer at ChristianaCare. The health system already had in place online “patient portals” for people in its system, including those whose primary care physicians practice in freestanding offices. “So we did video visits,” Maxwell says, “we remotely monitored conditions, we
did text messaging and phone calls. We didn’t want people to feel isolated. For some COVID patients not hospitalized, we texted them several times a day. There still was a learning curve for everyone, and patients certainly taught us through their feedback and suggestions.”
