PRESENTING SPONSOR
The role of innovation in the growth and ongoing vitality of Delaware’s economy is paramount. As the state economy grows in new directions and builds on existing foun- dations, innovation is not only relevant in terms of new products and technologies, but also to new ways of thinking.
Innovation is imagining new ways to partner, collaborate, and solve together, fully leveraging the state’s existing strengths and assets and attracting new people and or- ganizations to the state.
The Delaware Prosperity Partnership (DPP), a public-private partnership created in 2017, embodies a new approach to economic development for Delaware that allows the state to adapt more nimbly to global economic trends and re- main competitive. The DPP Board includes members of the business, education and non-profit communities, as well as state legislators from all three counties.
Responsible for the business marketing efforts of the state, the DPP focuses on attracting early-stage and technolo- gy-focused businesses, recruiting large employers, and supporting expansion of existing business. The DPP is posi- tioned to work with partners across the state on exciting economic development opportunities that span the financial technology, business services, life sciences and agriculture sectors, among others. Such opportunities can be found in the growth of existing organizations, as well as through entrepreneurial ventures. Because innovation plays a key role across all of these areas, Delaware must remain committed to supporting innovation in its business, education, and workforce development efforts.

The University of Delaware (UD), founded in 1743,
is the eighth oldest university in the country. UD’s
storied tradition of academic excellence continues
today in both the classroom and laboratory, with
consistent ranking among the top 30 public univer-
sities. Beyond its Georgian-inspired main campus in Newark, Delaware, UD has locations across the state—in Wilmington, Dover, Georgetown and Lewes.
UD is a state-assisted, privately governed institution and one of a select group of institutions in the nation to hold the triple Land-Grant, Sea-Grant and Space-Grant designation. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching classifies UD as a research university with very high research activity—a designation accorded less than 3 percent of U.S. colleges and universities. UD ranks among the nation’s top 100 universities in federal R&D support for science and engineering.
UD offers a broad range of degree programs: three associate programs, 149 bachelor’s programs, 132 master’s pro- grams (with 13 joint degrees offered within) and 62 doctoral programs though its seven colleges. The University’s student body encompasses more than 18,900 undergraduates, more than 4,000 graduate students and more than 800 students in professional and continuing studies from across the country and around the globe. UD’s distinguished fac- ulty includes internationally known authors, scientists and artists, Guggenheim and Fulbright fellows and members of the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering and the American Association for the Advance- ment of Science. The University is fortunate to have an alumni base of more than 170,000, representing a unique and global ambassador community eager to support the University’s mission and pursuits.
