TRANSPORTATION/
LOGISTICS
the gateway for global business access􏰀—􏰀and growth
We’re reaching major markets by air, ground, rail, pipe, fiber-optic, and sea.
Easy, affordable access to markets around the country and the world starts in Greater Philadelphia. Companies looking to move products and people
can tap into one of the most unique and dynamic transportation infrastructure systems in the world – all connecting northern Delaware, southern New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania. With a major inter- national airport, three shipping ports, two Class 1 railroads, the third-busiest commuter rail station in the U.S., a comprehensive web of sophisticated interstate highways, a highly engineered energy-pipeline network, ultramodern fiber-optic cable and data highways
and a plentiful supply of warehouse and distribution installations – there is no better distribution operation in the world.
Strategically located on the East Coast between Washington, D.C., and New York City, Greater Philadelphia’s location, talented labor pool and transportation network provide a distinct advantage for companies dependent on moving and storing everything from raw materials and finished products to data and information throughout North America.
Greater Philadelphia’s infrastructure includes three major shipping ports along the Delaware River. The Delaware River’s recent enhanced depth of 45 feet allows for 80 percent of the world’s shipping vessels to access these ports.
There are more than 50 warehouse and distribution facilities within 75 miles of the Port of Philadelphia, including installations along the New Jersey Turnpike in southern New Jersey and adjacent to Interstate 78 in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, an hour’s drive to the northwest. With the Port of Wilmington, located in New Castle County, DE, and the new Paulsboro Port
in Gloucester County, NJ, Greater Philadelphia also features a multimodal transportation network and large parcels of land for future distribution centers.
In addition, American Airlines and UPS maintain their major shipping hubs at Philadelphia International Airport. American Airlines recently constructed
a 25,000-square-foot cold storage facility at its Philadelphia site specifically to accommodate the cold-storage supply chain needs of the region’s dominant biotech and pharmaceuticals industry. Combine this new facility with the longstanding UPS cold-storage capabilities in Philadelphia and there
is no better place for timely, efficient distribution of regionally produced life-enhancing medicines requiring temperature control.
