Quality of Life: HEALTH CARE Outdoor Experiences
  GARRETT COUNTY
Takes Good Care of You
For anyone considering a relocation, the quality of health care has always been a factor. But it has never been as crucial as it is in the age of COVID.
Fortunately, your health is in good hands in Garrett County. We are home to two highly rated medical centers, several urgent care facilities, an innovation- minded health department and a host of primary and specialty care providers.
Even before the emergence of COVID, public health was a major priority for the Garrett County Health Department. The department is nationally renowned for
its innovative Garrett County Planning Tool (mygarrettcounty.com), which
uses a data-driven approach to identify barriers to care and better health. The mygarrettcounty.com website is also a hub for community groups organized to address specific barriers to wellness, such as opioid abuse and obesity.
In addition to its planning tool, the health department (garretthealth.org) promotes individual and environmental health through a wide range of educational programs, medical treatments and disease prevention, detection and awareness services.
The Garrett Regional Medical Center (GRMC, grmc-wvumedicine.org), an affiliate of WVU Medicine, was named
a Top 20 Rural & Community Hospital
in 2021 by The Chartis Center for Rural Health and the National Rural Health Association. This honor puts GRMC in the top 1% of rural hospitals in the country. GRMC was also named to a list of the nation’s top maternity hospitals, compiled by Newsweek in partnership with the Leapfrog Group. Furthermore, Leapfrog bestowed GRMC with an A grade for safety for the third year in a row in 2021.
The main campus of GRMC has 55 inpatient beds, a four-bed intensive care unit, a 10-bed subacute rehabilitation unit, maternity care, a 13-bed outpatient surgical unit with a four-bed surgical suite and around-the-clock emergency services. The hospital’s laboratory, radiology
and cardiopulmonary departments are equipped with the latest technology. In the spring of 2021, GRMC cut the ribbon on a new Integrative Pain Management Center, which will offer non-opioid treatment options to those suffering from chronic pain.
Beyond its hospital facility, GRMC treats patients in the community at the
