The lavish country home of Ogden and Ruth Livingston Mills, this 79-room Beaux-Arts mansion was once a social hub for America’s elite. Special themed tours include “Tales of the Titanic” and “Gilded Age Scandals.” This 192-acre property features hiking and biking trails.
Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site (Hyde Park) This 54-room mansion, the country home of railroad
baron Frederick William Vanderbilt and his wife, Louise, epitomized the extravagance and privilege of the aristocracy in the Gilded Age. Tour the home and stroll the estate’s grounds, including the Italian-inspired gardens.

Bannerman Castle (Beacon)
Explore the ruins of this Scottish-style castle built in the early 1900s by military surplus dealer Francis Bannerman on Pollepel Island in the Hudson River to store his vast inventory of weapons and munitions and advertise his business. Witness amazing views of the Hudson Highlands as a tour boat shuttles you from Beacon to the island. Enjoy guided tours of the castle, residence and gardens, and special events like movie screenings and theatrical performances. Open seasonally.
Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome (Red Hook)
Home to the world’s second-oldest regularly 􏰀ying airplane 􏰁 a fully functioning 1909 Bleriot 􏰂I 􏰁 and a 􏰀ying reproduction of Charles Lindbergh’s plane, The Spirit of
St. Louis. Watch a weekend airshow with barnstorming- era or WWI planes. Book a 􏰀ight in a 1929 biplane with an experienced pilot. Open seasonally.

Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site, Hyde Park
20th Century
Franklin D. Roosevelt Home, Presidential Library and Museum (Hyde Park)
See where our 32nd president was born, lived and laid to rest. Learn about the adaptations made to accommodate his paralysis from polio. The FDR Presidential Library and Museum chronicles the lives of the Roosevelts, including Franklin’s political ascendancy. On display through 2024, the special exhibit “Black Americans, Civil Rights and the Roosevelts, 1932-1962” examines the political evolution of the Roosevelts regarding racial justice and highlights the voices of Black community leaders, wartime service members and ordinary citizens.
Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site (Hyde Park) Across town from FDR’s historic sites is the only National Historic 􏰃ite dedicated to a first lady. 􏰄al-􏰅ill, the main cottage on the property, features an exhibit documenting Eleanor Roosevelt’s emergence as a social and political dynamo and includes her work to help draft the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. House open seasonally; trails open year-round.
