FIND IT ALL
IN ARLINGTON
Arlington benefits from a bevy of diverse dining options, varied shopping and a charming college campus — all within a short stroll of each other.
• Grab hand-crafted coffee and house- made baked goods at The Crafted Kup or the nostalgic malt-shop-meets-new- wave-juice-bar, All Shook Up.
• Stroll through the Shakespeare Garden or admire the various architectural styles of Vassar College’s campus buildings, ranging from modernist to gothic
(pg. 41).
• For lunch, Tokyo Express and Thai Spice are affordable choices for sushi and Pad Thai. Savona’s Trattoria & Bar serves up classic Italian fare using the freshest local ingredients.
• Find chic, comfortable womenswear at Elizabeth Boutique, both custom and estate jewelry at Zimmer Brothers and healing crystals at The Dreaming Goddess. • Summer and fall bring a host of events like the weekly farmers market, Yoga on the Lawn and the Arlington Street Fair.
• End the day with a tasty, house-made panouzzo, or pizza sandwich, made in
a gorgeous, black-tiled pizza oven from Spettro, a new Italian gastropub.
• In 2024, Vassar College is set to open The Heartwood, a 50-room inn, in addition to The Vassar Institute for the Liberal Arts, a “public classroom” with 3,500 square feet of conference space, and The Salt Line restaurant.
Hudson Valley Magazine readers voted Lily & Marigold Home + Design “Best Home Decor” in 2023.
accolades, including “Best New Bar” from Chronogram Magazine, and Hudson and Packard places annually at the International Pizza Expo.
The Village Pancake Factory
(Pleasant Valley and Poughkeepsie Galleria) has options for all dietary restrictions. It was born out of a need for owners Izzy and Raquel Roman
to find restaurants to eat with their sons, two of whom have severe food allergies. In Poughkeepsie, head to Cocina La Cabañita de Oaxaca for authentic Mexican cuisine; Tamarind for avorful curries and La Deliziosa Italian Pastry Shop for mouthwatering desserts. To the east, you’ll find a classic diner at the Daily Planet, traditional Greek dishes at Athena Gyro (LaGrangeville) and churrasco- style dishes at Hudson Valley Portuguese Churrasqueira (Verbank).
Craft beverage lovers will want to check out the City of Poughkeepsie for Blue Collar Brewery, King’s Court Brewing Company and Zeus Brewing Company, which has the city’s only rooftop bar with views of the Hudson River. Shadows on the Hudson received Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence in 2023.
BRING HOME
Adams Fairacre Farms is a farm-to- table lover’s dream — if it’s grown, raised or made in the area, Adams will likely have it on the shelf at its Poughkeepsie and Wappingers Falls locations. Located on the Taconic State Parkway, the Taste NY Store at Todd Hill highlights many Dutchess products, including Dutchess Coffee Roastery coffee beans, Hudson Valley Skin Care and Horseshoe Brand hot sauces. Their farmers market runs Fridays from late May through October.
The live-work-play community of Eastdale Village gives you a variety of options to shop (and eat!) in one location. Shop on Eastdale Avenue at Utensil Kitchenware, Daffodils Gift Shoppe, Ye Old Gift Shoppe
and The efillery torehouse.
