A wonderful way to get a view of the city, along with sweeping vistas of
the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains, is to visit the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park (Poughkeepsie). Rising 212 feet above the ground and stretching 1.28 miles across, it’s the world’s longest elevated pedestrian bridge. Take a glass-walled elevator down to Upper Landing Park. A short walk leads you to Victor C. Waryas Park on the Poughkeepsie waterfront, where you can spot cruise ships, sailboats and crew shells.
Shop the seasonal Poughkeepsie Waterfront Market at the Mid- Hudson Discovery Museum Pavilion.
Visit the collaborative art space with rotating exhibits at Gallery 40, followed by drinks and bites at 1915
Wine Cellar or Mercat 1915. Many galleries, such as Womenswork.Art, offer unique points of view. Visit The Trolley Barn for national juried art shows curated and presented by young artists enrolled in The Art Effect program. The nonprofit Arts Mid-Hudson sponsors area events and oversees permanent galleries and a pop-up shop.
The Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center’s Victorian, Hancock and Reception galleries, housed in two Victorian-age buildings, showcase works by local and regional artists and performances in their 200-seat theater.
Taking off from Sky Acres Airport in LaGrangeville, let Hudson Valley Flight Service take you on an aerial tour of the Hudson Valley in a Cessna 182.
