armed with a bedrock faith in ourselves, as well as a transformation plan we had begun executing with rigor, grit and re- solve. We were going to prove to the city and state, to our customers, to our share- holders, to those naysayers, and mostly to ourselves, that we could prevail. Not just prevail, but win.
The Bottom Line
So was it a better outcome for all? Consider the following. Since The Che- mours Company made the decision to stay in Wilmington:
• We’ve completed the renovation of The DuPont Building, incorporating over $100 million of investment and opening our global world headquar- ters in January 2019. More than 700 people call it their work home.
• We’re relocating and consolidat- ing 18 different labs in surrounding states into a $150 million, world-class

laboratory, the Chemours Discovery Hub, on the STAR Campus of the University of Delaware. At the same time, we are signing agreements with the university to accommodate intern-
ships and lab-equipment sharing — all in pursuit of application development and science-based innovation; when it opens in 2020, some 350 people will work at the Discovery Hub.
• Chemours executives have taken on leadership roles in support of The United Way, Downtown Visions, the Wilmington Renaissance Corpora- tion, Rodney Square Conservancy and other non-profits committed to im- proving the city. In 2018 alone, Che- mours’ United Way campaign raised over $700,000, nearly $400,000 of which stays right here in Wilmington. Employees volunteered nearly 1,300 hours, and in the process earned Che- mours the United Way of Delaware’s Volunteer of the Year for 2018.
• We launched with Mayor Michael Purzycki a $400,000 scholarship program for Wilmington students
