RIDING THE RAILS, BUILDING A BRIDGE
While Westchester and the Hudson Valley are great in their own right, one of the biggest advantages of living here is our proximity to New York City. It’s not only close, but it is easily aIccessible via one the largest and best commuter railroads in the nation.
n 2017, Metro-North Railroad set an all-time record with 86.5 million rides, and an on-time performance above goal at 93.4 percent. Com-
muters who take the Hudson line through Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties have an added bonus, with the Hudson River, Palisades, and our many bridges serving as a beautiful backdrop. The Harlem line brings commuters to and from bustling communities such as White Plains, Pleasantville, and Mount Kisco. The New Haven Line hugs the Long Island Sound and can bring passengers to New York City or New Haven, CT, and every place in between. Those living in Rockland and Orange County are serviced by Met- ro-North’s Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines, respectively. There are also ferries connecting Haverstraw to Ossining and Newburgh to Beacon.
Rockland residents can also take Hudson Link, the newly enhanced com- muter bus service — which opened in October 2018 along the I-287 corri- dor and the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge — to Metro-North stations in Tar- rytown and White Plains. The Hudson Link will feature 19 new bus shelters and 45-foot long buses with wireless net- work service, USB charging stations, and bike racks.
Also connecting Rockland to Westches- ter is the new Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge itself. When the project is complet- ed, both spans will have four general traffic lanes, two emergency shoulders on each side of the respective span, and a bus lane on the right side. Landing points in Tarry- town and South Nyack will feature parking lots, bicycle repair stations, restrooms and other visitor amenities, and links to local bicycle and pedestrian networks.
BUS SERVICES
In Westchester, the Bee-Line bus sys- tem serves over 30 million passengers an- nually with a combination of local, express,

and railroad-feeder bus services. Over 65 percent of all Westchester County resi- dents are within walking distance of a Bee-Line bus route.
Transport of Rockland (TOR) is Rock- land County’s local bus system of 10 routes, providing service along major corridors as well as with feeder loops within the County.
Putnam Area Rapid Transit (PART)
operates four fixed routes year-round in addition to a seasonal trolley in Cold Spring and commuter shuttles to the Metro-North stations at Croton Falls and Peekskill.
Dutchess County Public Transit trans- ports approximately 800,000 passenger trips a year on a fleet of 56 buses and vans.
Orange County sponsors 16 individual transit operators providing services in four general categories: commuter bus, local bus, dial-a-bus, and paratransit services.
Paratransit services are provided in all counties for people who can’t use the local system due to disability.
AIR
Westchester County Airport, located five miles east of White Plains, offers
commercial, business, and private aviation services and is served by five passenger airlines: American, Delta, United, JetBlue, and Elite Airways. It has direct flights to 12 cities, including five cities in Florida. In addition, Cape Air and Tradewind Aviation offer flights to New England destinations such as Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Boston and Stowe.
New York Stewart International Airport, in Orange County, is served by American, Allegiant Air, JetBlue, Delta, and Norwegian. Inexpensive international flights on Norwegian Airlines have helped the airline became the number one airline for European passengers to travel to or from New York.
