Westchester County and the Hudson Valley have a diverse and thriving economy fueled by small businesses, national corporations, and not-for-profits employing close to 500,000 in Westchester County alone.

Empire State Development (ESD)
seeks to encourage a growing economy in New York State through job creation and investment. Local economies are support- ed by real estate development, loans, tax credits, and grants.
The business scene in Westchester County and the Hudson Valley is growing tremendously, creating opportunities and new jobs for countless residents.
       Local residents support mom-and- pop shops that mostly comprise thebusinesssceneinWestches- ter, while they are proud that the county is the chosen location for some of country’s powerhouse companies like IBM, Mastercard, PepsiCo, Heineken, Danone, and IAC Applications.
Dubbed the BioHud Valley, the area is home to some of the world’s leading research institutes and biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, including Regeneron, Acorda Therapeutics, and Curemark. Also, New York Medical College is home to BioInc@NYMC, a biotechnology incubator.
With nearly 50,000 students enrolled in Westchester’s 25 public and private colleges and universities, higher education is clearly a thriving industry. The in- stitutions with signifcant enrollments are Westchester Community College, Mercy College, Purchase College (SUNY), Pace University, Iona College, The College of New Rochelle, Manhattanville College, Berkeley College, and Fordham University’s West Harrison campus (for more about colleges, see page 46).
Real Estate developers such as Ginsburg Development Companies (GDC),
RXR Realty, Cappelli Organization, Robert Martin Company, RPW Group, Simone Development Companies, Walison Corp., National Resources, Saber Real Estate Advisors, Fareri Associates, Diamond Properties have created myriad new facilities in the county, including many transit-oriented development properties in Westchester’s cities. Projects include New Rochelle’s downtown area on Main Street, new town- homes and apartments in Peekskill, and a luxury residence in White Plains, within walking distance from Metro-North.
One of the area’s most influential organi- zations, Business Council of Westchester (BCW) is the leading ecomonic develop- ment and business advocacy membership organization in Westchester. In 2018, the organization launched the anticipated BCW Data Exchange, an online data cen- terthatprovidescurrentandprospective Westchester businesses, not-for-profit organizations, and governments with a user-friendly source for current demo- graphic information, statistical analysis, and trend data about Westchester County.
