                  WESTCHESTER
MAMARONECK
Neighborhood: Orienta
An affluent community with a prime location on the Sound
The village of Mamaroneck has long been characterized by its diverse middle- class neighborhoods, lively downtown area, and harbor on the Sound Shore. In contrast, the Orienta neighborhood has remained one of Westchester’s most af- fluent areas since large waterfront manor homes were first built here in the late 19th century.
Orienta is a sought-after area defined by stately homes and gardens along Long Island Sound. Developers often purchase land, demolish old homes, and build new ones. Given the demand for this rarified community, it’s no wonder Mamaroneck is consistently rated one of the best places to live in New York. Several homes here were designed or inspired by the legend- ary architectural firm McKim, Mead & White, and many Orienta waterfront resi- dences have private beaches.

YONKERS
Neighborhood: Woodstock Park
Short commute and a great value, with gorgeous views of the river and Palisades
As the fourth most populous city in New York State, the city of Yonkers offers di- verse neighborhoods catering to residents of all backgrounds – and a recently reno- vated downtown riverfront. The Wood- stock Park area of the city overlooks the Hudson River in the center of northwest Yonkers. The neighborhood features el- egant homes dating back to the late 19th century and newer houses built in the post-WWII era. Virtually every east-west
street has a view of the Hudson and sun- sets over the Palisades.
The Old Croton Aqueduct offers an ideal backdrop for walks, runs, or bike rides. Along with beautiful Untermeyer Park and Gardens, Northwest Yonkers houses one of the best hidden gems in the city: the Amackassin Club, the second-oldest continuously operating tennis club in the US. The north end of Palisade Avenue has stores, restaurants, a bar, salons, and more. The restored Boyce Thompson Cen- ter building features 10,000 square feet of medical space, restaurants, and retail.

WHITE PLAINS
Neighborhood: The Highlands
A slice of classic, mid-century subur- bia, just blocks away from downtown
Westchester’s bustling capital has grown exponentially in recent decades with its Downtown offering plenty of big- city amenities, including variety of ethnic restaurants and shopping to meet ev- ery taste, without the expensive big city
prices. But while the downtown has been evolving rapidly, there’s been little new development in the sought-after High- lands section of White Plains over the past half-century, preserving the neigh- borhood’s traditional suburban feel.
Though adjacent to the continu- ously evolving city center, the Highlands is dominated by single-family Tudors, Colonials and modern ranches with yards, picket fences, and tree-lined streets. A few garden-style condos and medical offices can be found closer to White Plains Hospital. There are many houses of worship and one of two middle schools in the White Plains district.
