PEEKSKILL
Neighborhood: Downtown
A dynamic cultural area and
artists’ enclave – with riverfront views and amenities
Increasingly sophisticated, yet still af- fordable, Peekskill offers outstanding di- versity, value, and river views – as well as access to the water for activities like pad- dle-boarding and festivals at Riverfront Green Park.
Downtown Peekskill’s art-and-culture scene is the direct result of an early- 1990s city-planning strategy whose mis- sion was to turn unused downtown prop- erties from this once-industrial city into live/work artist studios and galleries, ac- tively wooing artists from New York City via tax incentives, grants, and loans. While residents today enjoy trendy eateries like RamenEsque, galleries like Hudson Valley MOCA, and the historic Paramount Hud- son Valley Theater, “there is no hustle and bustle of a big city,” says resident Joe Di Tillio. “You are surrounded by nature.”
