As we celebrate Italian Heritage Month,
I thought that it might be a good time to talk about one aspect of our Italian heritage that is not always a focus of the ways our culture is celebrated. Many celebrations and customs embraced by Italian
Americans and Americans who have a love for “everything Italian” are music, festivals and Italian history.
We herald Italy as a great vacation spot, research our genealogy and of course love Italian cuisine. However, learning the
language that binds our culture together was,
in previous decades, discouraged by some parents or simply not considered a vital part of the main ways Italians and their descendants living outside Italy observed the culture of the old country.

Many can ‘walk the walk’ but can you ‘talk the talk’?
