I’m proud to
announce a
contribution from
the Robert James
Och Memorial
Fund helped Father Jim DeGrassa, Pastor of Resurrection of Our Lord Church in Rhawnhurst area of Philadelphia officially unveil “Patrick’s Playground”. Parishioners John & Theresa Guinan helped raised more than
$20,000 in memory of their son Patrick, who died last year at 37. It includes slides, swings, rock climbing wall & an outdoor library. A perfect neighborhood addition.
“The Hank Cisco Show” shot ‘live on tape’ with Norristown High School students under the direction
of Teacher-Producer John Doyle is seen on Comcast 28, Verizon 45 & Cisco’s YouTube channel. Cisco (95 plus), known formerly as the Ambassador
of Norristown, has no plans on slowing down. On hospice since Spring, he still approves guests. I’m honored to have been chosen as one of ‘Hank’s Fill-In Hosts’. Following in his tradition of informing the regional community my guests
include Retired Navy Captain Lou Cavaliere, The Chapel of the Four Chaplains at the Navy Yard profiled in this issue. Their motto, welcoming veterans & families without regard to race, religion, or creed exemplified Cisco’s
philosophy in life.
Guest Stu Bykofsky,
a columnist with over 47 years covering Philadelphia through The
Daily News & Inquirer has retired & shared stories
on his career spanning monumental historic moments covering local, region & international stories before computers
of any kind were available to file stories. One of the city’s most widely read journalists until July 2019,
he is a native of New York City & Brooklyn College graduate. His career included theater & tv critic, copy editor & features writer. A member of the Society of Professional
Journalists, the Nat’l Society of Newspaper Columnists & Phila’s Pen & Pencil Club, his stories could fill many episodes.
A US Navy veteran & Villanova graduate,
Silvio Lelli, Founder of Nationwide Wine & Spirits shares his story on re- inventing yourself through life’s experiences. A small business owner among giants, he focus’ on small- production, family owned vineyards & distilleries
that offer the best value. Traveling the world, he scours the Earth, runs his fingers through the ground, smells the fruits of labor &
brings you the best.
A big thanks to Silvio, nationwidewine.com, for the invite to Devon Prep School Fall Bash at Gulph Mill Golf Club with MC Joe
Piscopo, actor, comedian, performer, singer & Saturday Night Live alumni (80-84). Raised in North Jersey, Piscopo has strong Italian roots thru maternal grandparents Frank & Susan LaMagna & Rosario Piscopo & Carmela Spiezio, his paternal grandparents, immigrants from Avellino in Campania Region. Piscopo’s dad, born Pasquale Giuseppe Piscopo in Orange, NJ, was an honor student
who skipped grades, was commissioned a Major when he retired from the Army enlisting at the start of WW II & was a pioneer attorney in Workman’s
Compensation with a
career spanning 50 years. With strong Italian pride, Piscopo can be heard on New York AM 970 Talk Radio daily with The Joe Piscopo Morning Show. He’s vocal about his Italian roots stating, “If they’re stupid enough to take
down Columbus, then they better put up DiMaggio.” The Italians need a strong voice in today’s environment challenging Columbus Day.
Thanks to the generous support of sponsors, Ray
& Shauna Mirra, Peg DeGrassa, Delco News Network and I were treated to a private performance
by “The Midtown Men”, stars from the original Broadway cast of “Jersey Boys”; Tony Award winner Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard
& Tony Award nominee
J. Robert Spencer. Their Rat Pack-inspired sixties group is singing their way across America. It marks the first time a principle cast of a high-profile Broadway musical has formed their own group that’s sky- rocketing to success. Joining in the festivities were Broad Street Bullies, Philadelphia Flyer’s Bob Kelly & Bernie Parent.
Parent, who bought my brother Stephen Zippi’s boat some years ago, has now re-named it “The Italian French Connection” due to his wife, Gini Gramaglia Parent. She’s proud of her Italian family roots in Montella, Province of Avellino, Campania.
Until next month, Ciao Bella!
