homes, w/ high-end features & appliances, are a labor of love w/hubby, builder Frank Scaramuzza & it’s their neighborhood & her childhood home. Capozzi’s father, Ludwig was first to build in Packer Park in 1960’s.
I remember the excitement around the new townhomes in this once quiet end of Broad Street with parking spaces. “My Italian Aunts”, Vincent & Erma (Acciavatti) Di Giulio & Larry & Livia (Acciavatti) Cappetto, bought on 17th Street. Capozzi remembers hanging out at model homes & Dad’s in-house printed community newsletter, still done today. Stop in for a visit & the best rooftop view of the city!
w/ friends of Guy Fizzano & Harry’s Savoy Grill in Wilmington w/Delco Judge Linda Cartisano & Delco Chamber of Commerce alumni, Theresa Heintz.

A former board member of the Media Business Authority & PA Restaurant Assoc. Dining Italian Style, Kathy Piperno, w/ Abruzzo & Calabria roots, has a favorite spot, child- hood friend, Executive Chef/proprietor Chris Scarduzio’s TECA in Newtown Square where he creates a passion for an engaged dining experience & atmosphere. Attorney, Author & Advocate, Piperno opens up about Domestic Abuse, a whispered secret, in all nationalities & demographics, around the world. Check out her story & resources in IAH.
It started w/ my friend, Restaurateur & Chef Margaret Kuo from the Main Line asking me ‘who had the best cheesesteak in Philadelphia’ & ‘did I ever hear of ‘Isgro’s’.
Celebrating South Philly Style, Margaret Kuo
joined me visiting my favorite Italian stops.
On the way, James May Costume Design workshop in Ridley Township where this legendary craftsman works among feathers, sequins & pearls producing over ‘10’s of Thousands’ of Mummers costumes over 50 years. May (Mayo) Chester family famous for May’s Water Ice, wife BetteLou & “Junior”, his childhood name, have focused on gifting non-profits “Eagles Championship Hats” for their fundraising efforts. Their philanthropic efforts along with mannequins of bridal & ball gowns waltzing about, his fingers are busy still creating for ‘after-retirement’ clients & friends.
Once over the double-decker bridge, we parked the car on my girlfriend’s street, & w/a driver recommendation from Sal D’Angelo, Rittenhouse Square Restaurateur, we met Retired Police Chief Tony Pearce & off we went.
Growing up in Girard Estate, St. Monica graduate, we headed for pizza & bread at Caci’s Bakery, 15th & Ritner. Parking is creative
but worth it. In business for over 70 years, on Philly’s Stadium Days, fresh Roast Pork & Cannoli’s. Besides your take home order, the variety of square slice pizza (especially the corner) is a must for the car ride.
Next stop, Packer Park to see real estate maven Barbara Capozzi’s newest townhome project, Renaissance Estates. Located
near The Navy Yard, Sports Stadiums & Philadelphia Flower Show’s FDR Park, there is plenty of green space & the Delaware River nearby. These intricately designed
Onto Maglio Sausage Co for ‘fresh homemade mozzarella’. Family-owned sausage purveyors for almost 80 years. In the early 1940’s, Tony Maglio worked on 9th Street while Louis Maglio worked in the slaughterhouse. With only a third-grade education Tony decided

to sell his prized pork Italian sausage (secret family recipe) to the first ‘supermarkets.’ Now in its second & third generations, in the Maglio family, when you’re Italian & 13 years old,
you go to work. Located in the food packing district on 3rd Street, visit the long-running market turning out housemade sausages along w/ an extensive Cento line of products, Italian deli meats, hot sandwiches & Italian groceries. A bonus, the walls are graced w/ American Pop Artist, Perry Milou’s original works of art.
Next stop, John’s Roast Pork. Abruzzese immigrant Dominico Bucci arriving in 1918 w/ nothing but the clothes on his back, & family roast pork recipe, during 1930’s, opened a sandwich shop serving Delaware River dock & warehouse workers. Cheesesteaks came later in the 1970’s when John Bucci, Jr. took over cheesesteak duties from dad & upped their cheesesteak game, choosing higher quality meat, cooking to order & following his mom’s golden rule, “anything with more than five ingredients is too many. Keep it simple.” Still family-owned & operated, this once quiet industrial area began building up in the 2000s & now, w/ James Beard recognition, has gotten tourist & media attention. Still a shack, window only service & outside seating, it’s a must to experience eating on site plus taking an order home too.
Neighborhood favorite, Isgro’s Bakery on 10th & Christian, owner Gus Sarno insists on doing things the right way, even if it takes longer or costs more. For generations & generations, Isgro’s iconic Italian sweets are still handmade in small batches. Established in 1904 & still family-owned and operated, this is the place for traditional holiday specialties, birthday & wedding cakes & more.
Partial to Lady Z’s, ‘Angel’ Zuccaro, founder of custom chocolate shop, Flavors & Favors, started her chocolate art at her kitchen table in 1994 & her unique chocolate tower creations took off . Now at her new “Triangle” location on Passyunk Avenue w/ a gigantic window homage to Lucille Ball, her new location is FABULOUS. Still made fresh every day, she & her staff take great pride in offering only
the freshest ingredients in products. Besides custom gift giving needs, it’s the perfect location to satisfy your family’s ice cream & chocolate cravings.
