Who says a puppy can’t be your Valentine?

It’s February e fa freddo fuori (and it’s cold outside). As I sit at home now in America on this
frigid afternoon cuddled on the couch with una piccola cucciola chiamata Sara (a little puppy named Sara), I think about how our hearts are filled with the warmth of Sara’s love.
When I think back
to the years we lived
in Italia, Sara, you
are always in the
picture; all the
trips we took
together, all
the places we
visited and all
the people we
met because you are so cute and loving. When we returned home to the U.S. (quando ci siamo tornati negli StatiUuniti) to what was now to be your new home in a new land you were the most important thing that our family brought home. I know that every Valentine’s Day many people give each other cartoline (cards), fiori (flowers), cioccolatini (chocolates) o
Sara
altri bei regali (or other
pretty gifts) but every day of the year is Valentine’s Day per la famiglia Cannavò because of you.
For us Sara is not just a puppy, she
is a much-loved member of our family. You may have read of some of her many adventures in Italy that bring a smile to our faces every time we talk about them.
Forse Sara è piccola ma ha un cuore
grande e piena d’amore. (She may be small but she has a big heart full of love.) We want to tell her also how much we love her so we’ll say ti vogliamo bene and explain some of the many reasons why in Italian and English. After all, she is bilingual!
Non dimenticare i nostri amici migliori, (don’t forget our best friends) and make sure to wish them Felice Giorno di San Valentino too! IAH

Ergi la nostra anima quando torniamo a casa. Nascondi i balocchi troppo ma ci fa ridere. Evochi tanti bei ricordi della nostra vita in Italia.
You have eyes that look at us with such love and faith. You find friends wherever you go.
Your kisses are so sweet!
Wherever you go you are well behaved.
The joy when you play with your balls. That you like to sleep under the sheets. And now we can’t imagine life without you! You love us like we love you.
You show happiness, energy and joy in everything you do.
Every morning you are ready to say good morning with kisses and a wagging tail.
It is beautiful how you wait for your family’s return when we leave the house.
You lift up our spirits when we come home. You hide your toys but it makes us laugh
You bring to mind so many beautiful memories of our life in Italy.
