Delaware is prepping for a major golfing first this summer, as Wilmington Country Club gets set to host the 2022 BMW Championship Aug. 16-21. It marks the first PGA Tour event ever hosted in the First State and the first professional golf event since 2004, when DuPont Country Club last hosted the LPGA Championships and other major women’s events.
The BMW Championship is coming the Mid-Atlantic Region for the third time in five years. Its most recent stop in our area was Aronimink Golf Club
in 2018. The top 70 PGA Tour players will compete for the FedEx Cup on Wilmington Country Club’s south course. This penultimate tour playoff event determines the final field of 30 for the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Prior winners include Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson.
