OUR REGION GRABS THE SPOTLIGHT FOR THE KPMG WOMEN’S PGA TOURNAMENT— RAIN OR SHINE. By Michael Bradley
The last time Aronimink Golf Club hosted a significant professional event, the weather gods decided that
they didn’t like golf. More than five inches of rain fell at the BMW Championship in September 2018, turning the Newtown Square, Pa., layout into a sopping mess that required non-stop attention. Even so, the Aronimink grounds crew did a remarkable job preparing the course for play.
At press time, the KPMG Women’s PGA Tournament was scheduled to bring
more than 150 of the world’s best golfers
to Aronimink June 23-28—though that could easily change given the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
If the dates hold and the weather fails to cooperate, you can expect all four rounds to be played. Worst case scenario, everything within reason will be done to try and get
it done. And golf fans will still come out. “The one thing we learned [from the BMW Championship] was that Philadelphia really supports major championships,”
says Aronimink GM John Cunningham. “The weather was less than ideal, and the
