The Delaware Contractors Association Scholarship Trust was established in 1989 with a $50,000 investment by the Association to provide scholarships to employees or dependents of employees whose company is a member of the Association. Over the past 30 years, DCA has awarded 105 scholarships, totaling $102,000, to 64 students. The Scholarship’s name was changed by the Board in 2009 to honor John McMahon upon his retirement, and is now known as the John J. McMahon, Jr. Scholarship.
While the majority of the recipients have attended the University of Delaware, the list of other schools represented is extensive, including: the University of Maryland, Penn State University, and the University
of Notre Dame, in addition to local schools such as Delaware Technical & Community College, Wilmington University and the Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades.
The Scholarship Committee is chaired by Gregory Sawka of Bancroft Construction Company, and its members include: Ed Devenny of Whisman, Giordano & Associates, LLC, Vincent N. Greggo, Greggo & Ferrara, Gladys King, J&G Building Group, Richard LaPenta, IFS and Elizabeth Pennington, I.D. Griffith, Inc. DCA is most appreciative of the Committee for its service.
Please contact Jamie Chambers at (302)-994-7442 for further information about the scholarship program.
