Irénée du Pont
Founder
So, my father got to be DuPont President in 1918 and he said, “We are going to get into this safety thing big time.” And he hired Lewis DeBlois, and they worked out a program that would get every employee excited about safety and believing in it. —Irénée du Pont, Jr.
Delaware Safety Council has been
safeguarding Delawareans since 1919.
Founded by Irénée du Pont, then president
of the DuPont Company, Delaware Safety
Council was the first state safety council
in the United States. For over a century,
the DSC has been at the forefront of safety
bringing the first safe driving program into
Delaware schools in 1920 and graduating
its first industrial safety class in 1922. The
DSC workplace safety programs, defensive driving courses, roadway and CPR certifications continue to offer safety solutions to all Delawareans.
