KEVIN ZRALY’S TOP 5 PICKS IN THE CONNOISSEURS TENT
Author and wine educator Kevin Zraly will be on hand in the Party Line Connoisseurs Tent to answer questions and discuss everything wine related as you taste your way through the world-class selection of more than 40 wines being poured in this exclusive lounge area.
1. Penfolds Grange 2012 (Barossa, Australia) Ranked by connoisseurs as the Best Wine from Australia, this 2012 was a great vintage in Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. Made primarily from the Shiraz (Syrah) grape (98%) with a final touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. Complex, big, bold black fruits with a long, savory finish.
Rated 99 points by the Wine Advocate.
2. Beaulieu Vineyard BV Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
(Napa, California) Napa Valley has been blessed with great vintages for the past five years, but the standout is the 2013. The Georges de Latour is one of the best Cabernets in Napa, beginning with its first vintage in 1936. Look for layers of dark fruit flavors.
Rated 95 by Robert Parker/Wine Advocate.
3. Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2013 (Tuscany, Italy) Sassiccaia was the first “Super Tuscan” wine created in the 1920’s, but officially 1968 was their first vintage. A Bordeaux style blend made up of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc and aged for 2 years in French oak. Rich and dense with sweet balanced tannins.
Rated 99 points by Wine Enthusiast.
4. Puligny Montrachet Combettes 2012, Pierre Matrot (Burgundy, France) Puligny Montrachet is the most famous white wine village in Burgundy, making extraordinary 100% Chardonnay wines. This is a Premier Cru coming from the Combettes vineyard. Elegant & delicate fruit with light oak flavor.
Rated 92 by Antonio Galloni.
5. Stonestreet Upper Barn Chardonnay (Sonoma, California) This exquisite Chardonnay comes from the cool elevation (1600 feet) in the Alexander Valley, Sonoma, California. From old vines, 100% barrel fermented and aged for 11 months in French oak. Aromas of peach, pears and apples.
Rated 93 by the Wine Advocate.
