SCARSDALE Built as a peace- ful, energy-efficient, and light- filled retreat for a family of five, this house was designed around a study of the clients’ lifestyle and two fundamen- tal elements: sun and sound. The design allows sunlight to stream through the house from the south. The family likes to keep the windows open, so the living areas were kept to the back of the house. Large win- dow arrays on the front of the house have shading devices to prevent excessive heat gain but allow in as much natural light as possible.
