ROADWAYS
Numerous interstate highways – found throughout the County and linking to each other – connect Westchester to all five boroughs of New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut, upstate New York and beyond.
DID YOU KNOW?
One of the two spans of the new Mario Cuomo Tappan Zee Bridge – connecting Westchester to Rockland County, and serving 138,000 motorists per day – opened in late August 2017. By the time the second span over the Hudson River is opened in 2018, the new bridge will offer eight traffic lanes and breakdown lanes, a state-of-the-art traffic monitoring system and a dedicated path for pedestrians and cyclists.
New transit-oriented developments – which consist of new housing and retail spaces being constructed around transit hubs such as train stations – continue to spring up across the county in towns and cities such as Harrison, Bronxville, Port Chester, Mount Vernon, Elmsford, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle, Ossining, Tarrytown, Yonkers and White Plains.
Plans to bring Metro-North trains into Manhattan’s Penn Station via the New Haven line, and a dedicated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system Ex- press Bus planned for the Interstate 287 corridor, will help ease commute times for many residents across the county.
“Elite Airways is pleased to expand service in Westchester County with nonstop jet service to Myrtle Beach and Portland, Maine this year. We believe White Plains presents unique accessibility to New York City and to tri-state area communities that appreciate the convenience that HPN offers. We’ve enjoyed a tremendous response from the community with our nonstop service to Sarasota-Bradenton and Vero Beach in Florida, and we look forward to opportunities to expand with more destinations in and out of Westchester County in the future.”
