 A Word From Our Members
Make your home in Mercer County
Nestled between New York City and Philadelphia, our region welcomes its residents from all corners of the world. Entrepreneurs and financiers, scholars, artists and Nobel Prize winners have, and do, call our region home.
From our small towns with walkable town centers to our sprawling farms with fields to roam, there is no place like Mercer County. Whether you are looking for a new home, a simpler lifestyle, a great education, an abundance of recreational
activities or big-city culture, Mercer County still has it all.
Our real estate market reflects a transition in home ownership, always allowing for choices. Accounting for this trend are the many corporate and educational institutions that attract the best talent and brightest scholars in the world. Find a studio, a townhouse or single-family home in walkable towns. Our individual local flair is found here with locally owned shops and boutiques alongside more familiar brand
names. Branch out to neighborhoods strategically planned around town centers. Neighborhoods with multi- acre estates sit alongside organic farms. Imagine walking down your driveway to shop at your neighbor’s farm stand. This farmer will also be found at farm markets that seasonally pop up every day of the week around the region. Many of our restaurateurs will serve food grown within just a few miles of their restaurants.
Everyone, at every level, benefits from our educational excellence. With our earned reputation of high-achieving institutions, Mercer County students consistently rank among the top statewide. Our 11 public school districts serve 63,000 students, including
four special education schools, four technical schools and nine charter schools. Our private schools offer tremendous opportunities; they
are as varied and diverse as their students. A school may be hand- picked specific to an individual need: language immersion, all girls or
all boys, learning differences and college preparatory, among others,
will be available. At an advanced level, Mercer County Community College offers 75 associate degree programs and numerous credit and noncredit certificate programs. Other outstanding institutions include Princeton University, The College
of New Jersey, Rider University and Thomas Edison State College for long- distance learning. Or simply for a love of learning, Princeton University opens its doors for local residents who want to audit classes or attend lectures. The Princeton Adult School offers among its many classes accounting and finance, personal development, language, arts and technology. Outstanding lectures and local birding trips will also be found on this school’s roster.
The Mercer County Park System has something for everyone, regardless of age or ability. The numerous parks offer 10,000 acres to enjoy. Biking and walking trails, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, dog parks and playgrounds will all be found. Some of our parks offer planned recreation and sports fields for everything from disc golf to rugby for pick-up games, as well as organized leagues. Summer nights are often filled with picnic dinners and live music, or local theater groups performing in outdoor theaters.
In the heart of Princeton is our very own Emmy Award-winning McCarter Theatre. Professional actors from around the country join with local talent to bring theater, dance and music,
with more than 200 performances throughout the year. A highlight of the generations is the annual performance of “The Christmas Carol” or “The Nutcracker.” Private collections are entrusted to the Princeton University Art Museum to be housed and exclusively shown. It is the mission of the museum to foster critical thinking, visual literacy, dialogue and empathy to enrich the human experience and strengthen citizenship. On quiet afternoons, get lost in our regionally recognized record and book shops, offering one-of-a-kind shopping for exclusive collections often not found anywhere else.
We strongly believe in and support
our historical roots and the victories
of the American Revolution on our preserved battlefields. Our historians often lead tours through our battlefields and monuments to encourage us to remember our place in the path of our independence.
Where history meets modern life, and neighbors support neighbors, you will be proud to call our Mercer County region home.
