Competitions and product demonstrations made this year’s expo a thrilling event
The North Carolina Forestry Association (NCFA), along with co-sponsors Hatton-Brown Publishers, Inc. and the Carolina Loggers Association, hosted the Mid-Atlantic Logging & Biomass Expo on May 3 and 4, just outside of Laurinburg.
The first day of the Expo was a bit slow, and rain interfered in some of
the demonstrations. However, Saturday was a day for the books! The weather was perfect, and as a result, attendance skyrocketed. Many exhibitors were able to do full demonstrations of their products, and sell merchandise as well. The Log-A-Load loader competition was a success, as was the South Atlantic Woodsmen’s Association’s Timber Sports competition. Attendees frequently mentioned both of these events to staff, describing them as exciting, interesting and fun. Perhaps one of the most mentioned fan favorites was the Kona Ice truck; everyone who attended the Mid-Atlantic Logging & Biomass Expo enjoyed the cool and refreshing snow cones. Thank you to Bandit Chippers for sponsoring the Kona Ice truck at their display.
The expo site, a tract of land located approximately 10 miles northwest of Laurinburg, was another topic of discussion among staff, participants and exhibitors. The site was notably one of the best in the history of the Mid- Atlantic Logging & Biomass Expo, and according to Expo Coordinator Jack Swanner, “the site made this show. We definitely would like to do this again
Caterpillar’s site featured their latest forestry equipment, including new skidders.
