Turning Adversity Into Opportunity
Ihope everyone and their families has been safe and still productive this year.
This year is shaping up to be one of the most interesting years I have ever seen in this industry.
There have been many changes to our industry and the general economy. We have experienced dramatic shifts in markets, from curtailments with reduced production to some unfortunate closures. Most of us have gone through similar changes throughout our careers, where the rebound of opportunity has been quick to follow. I feel no different about the current economic conditions we are all facing.
I have found myself reminiscing about periods of
the past and how our industry persevered through
difficult times. There has always been one constant
in our industry that is unique to our success. We are all fortunate to have the best resource on our side: our people. When adversity faces our industry, I have always noticed how we come together to help each other overcome the obstacles that we each may be facing. It is this togetherness that brings strength to our industry and gives us the motivation to find opportunity to achieve success.
As your Chairman, it has been my privilege to have the opportunity to associate with some of the great leaders of our industry. I have been fortunate and appreciative for all I have learned from these great people over the past four years in leadership at the NCFA. It has truly been
a blessing to have forged relationships with like-minded people who have the desire, concern and passion to see the forest products industry continue to strive forward and be a beacon of economic success for North Carolina.
Ironically, with all the turmoil that is surrounding us today, I cannot help but feel like our industry has a real opportunity to capitalize on how important we are to the people of this great state. As we all remember, when the pandemic started, there was a major rush on toilet paper and other paper goods. This has been an open door for showing the people of North Carolina the necessity for our industry through the production of our wood products and the effects we bring economically to the state. Through this realization, the staff at the NCFA has been vigilant to capitalize on the current conditions. All members of the staff have remained focused and driven to seize the educational opportunity that our industry has been given.
In addition to these educational opportunities, there have been several legislative affairs issues that have arisen on a state and federal level, which the NCFA has managed through meticulously. The conversations that have been shared with me and the rest of the Executive Committee have proven to us the commitment our staff has to excelling and exceeding our expectations. As far as the conducting of business, I can assure you the staff is working diligently to continuously make our association better tomorrow than it is today.
In closing, I must reiterate how much pleasure I get from being able to associate with the professionals of our industry, from the staff to the Executive Committee and the Board. It is truly an honor to be involved with one the greatest associations in North Carolina, and I am very proud to be a part of the NCFA.
