A black box is used to represent mortality on the day it occurred, when applicable. All data was manually collected.
RESULTS & ANALYSIS
Demographics
COVID-19 diagnosis were analyzed (see Table 1). These patients were admitted from March 20, 2020 through April 24, 2020. Patients ranged in age from 20
to 93 years. There were 67 males and 33 females. Forty-seven patients were White/Caucasian, 30 were Hispanic,
and 18 were Black/African American. This breakdown by race is not consistent with the county population, which is 75% White/Caucasian, 12% Black/ African American, and 9% Hispanic, showing an increased incidence in the Hispanic and Black/African American populations.12 Part of this increase
may be due to an outbreak in a largely Hispanic community. Initial cases of COVID-19 occurred primarily in the eastern region of Sussex County, but
as time progressed, the disease moved westward due to an outbreak. Only two as non-Delaware residents. Few had a history of travel exposure, most reported community-acquired disease. Thirteen from the skilled nursing facility (SNF)/ long-term care (LTC) community. These patients had increased mortality and poorer prognosis.

was 60, with a mean of 60.8 years. The median age of patients who died was 69, with a mean of 69.2 years. Patients under
60 years of age who were admitted with COVID-19 experienced a 6% mortality rate. Those 60 years of age or older had a 30% mortality rate (see Figure 2).
Males accounted for 67% of the admissions and females, 33%. Males had increased mortality and were more likely to require mechanical ventilation than females.
Presenting Symptoms
Most common symptoms on admission were cough (74%), fever (65%), and shortness of breath (65%). Less reported symptoms include chills, body aches, weakness, fatigue, diarrhea, vomiting, ageusia, anosmia, loss of appetite, runny nose, sore throat, and headache.
