ARTICLE VIII — DELEGATES AND SECTION REPRESENTATIVES TO THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION
Section 1 – Election and Terms
The Council, when the action will be necessary for the ensuing regular session of the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association, shall elect such number of members of this Society to serve as delegate or delegates and alternate or alternates to the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association as this Society is entitled to by the most recent apportionment of the American Medical Association and shall elect them in such years and for such terms as will comply with the applicable provisions of the Constitution and Bylaws of the American Medical Association. Delegates and alternates serving at the time of the adoption of these Bylaws shall serve the terms for which they were elected, and no vacancy shall be deemed to exist until the expiration of their elected terms. No more than two delegates and two alternate delegates shall be elected in any one year for a term of two years.
There will also be elected by the Council an Organized Medical Staff Section Delegate and Organized Medical Staff Section Alternate Delegate to the American Medical Association House of Delegates upon receiving nominations
from the Presidents of the supporting Delaware hospital medical staff organizations. To be eligible for nomination,
the physician must be a member of a Delaware hospital medical staff, an active member of the Medical Society of Delaware, and a member of the American Medical Association. The Organized Medical Staff Section Delegate and Alternate will serve staggered two-year terms with no term limit. The representative serving at the time of the adoption of these Bylaws shall have their existing service applied to the two-year term. No more than one Organized Medical Staff Section Delegate and one Organized Medical Staff Section Alternate shall be elected in any one year.
Other Society Representatives to the AMA Sections approved by Council will be voted upon by the Council annually.

Section 3 — Vacancy During Elected Term; How Filled
If any American Medical Association Delegation delegate or Organized Medical Staff Section delegate dies, resigns, ceases to be a member in good standing of this Society, becomes disabled, or for any other reason cannot assume or    alternate becomes vacant for any reason, the Executive Board may appoint a member to serve for the unexpired portion of the term.
Other AMA Section representatives who die, resign, cease to be a member in good standing of this Society, become disabled, or for any other reason cannot assume or continue to assume the duties of the position, the rights and duties of  will then be formally elected at the next appropriate meeting of the Council where elections take place.
