                                PEEKSKILL:
River Views — With An Edge
Increasingly sophisticated, yet still affordable, Peekskill offers outstand- ing diversity, value, and river views — as well as access to the water for activi- ties like paddle-boarding and festivals at Riverfront Green Park. Downtown Peek- skill’s art-and-culture scene is the direct result of an early-1990s city-planning strategy whose mission was to turn unused downtown properties from this once-in- dustrial city into live/work artist studios and galleries, actively wooing artists from New York City via tax incentives, grants, and loans. While residents today enjoy trendy eateries, museums like Hudson Valley MOCA, and the historic Paramount Hudson Valley Theater, Peekskill still main- tains a strong small-town, community- minded atmosphere.

WHITE PLAINS:
The Heart of Westchester
Westchester’s bustling capital has grown exponentially in recent decades with its downtown offering plenty of big- city amenities, including a variety of res- taurants, exciting nightlife options, and shopping to meet every taste — without the expensive big-city prices. A great mix of housing can be found throughout White Plains, while downtown has seen a flurry of new high-rise projects like Continuum, a 288-unit building with a swanky roof deck, and 15 Bank Apart- ments, which boasts an indoor pool. Both of these developments are just steps from the White Plains Metro-North sta- tion, which is undergoing a $92-million
renovation. Add in The County Center — home to sports teams including the New York Liberty and the Westchester Knicks, as well as many events — plus ArtsWestches- ter, the county’s largest arts organization, and you’ve got one very well-rounded town.

YONKERS:
The 6th Borough?
As the fourth most populous city in New York State, the city of Yonkers offers diverse neighborhoods catering to residents of all backgrounds — and a riverfront downtown whose ongoing renovation is recharging the city’s reputa- tion. Couple that with a super-short NYC commute (33 minutes on Metro-North) and it’s no surprise that Yonkers has lured enough Manhattan dwellers and Brooklynites that it has been jokingly referred to as the 6th borough. There’s no shortage of new high-rise rental apartments to go around; a trio of apart- ment towers made recent debuts here: Sawyer Place (55 Main St), River Club at Hudson Park (63 Wells Ave) and Stratus on Hudson (1077 Warburton Ave). Yonkers Brewery is a popular water- ing hole, the restored Boyce Thompson Center houses an outpost of pizza hotspot Fortina, and the riverfront Yonkers Library offers stunning views of the Hudson and the Palisades.
