Evolution Meets Innovation
Manhattanville College President Dr. Frank D. Sánchez is advancing an innovative curriculum and building strong ties with Westchester’s business community.
Appointed in 2023, Frank D. Sánchez, Ph.D. is
the new President of Manhattanville College,
a private liberal arts institution dedicated to academic innovation, forward-thinking programs, and educating socially responsible leaders. Founded in 1841, the college serves nearly 1,400 undergraduate students and 1,000 graduate students from more than 44 countries and 33 states.
Here, Dr. Sánchez shares his vision for Manhattanville, and how the college and the business community will further develop a closely interconnected and mutually beneficial relationship.
A Strong Commitment to ROI
“Today, 51% of Americans are questioning the value of a college degree due to the expense, taking on a lot of debt and finding that getting a job aer graduating is rarely
guaranteed. We take the value of a modern college degree very seriously, ensuring
a very strong return on investment
for our students,” says Dr. Sánchez. Manhattanville has been ranked the #1 private, non-profit school in New York
for social mobility for
three years in a row by
“U.S. News and World
Report” in Regional
Universities North. “We
have worked very hard to achieve this,” he says, "and we are focused on significantly elevating the value we provide.”
An Evolving and Innovative Curriculum
Manhattanville offers more than 75 undergraduate
and graduate areas of study, and, says Dr. Sánchez, the institution continues to be adaptable to the needs of tomorrow’s workforce. “e college has made bold strategic moves in recent years, including the reimagining of our curriculum for emerging workforce needs, adding programs in nursing, the health sciences, the natural sciences, data science, and computer science,” he says. “ese changes are culminating with our designation as a university in April.”
According to Dr. Sánchez, “Manhattanville will continue
to push innovation in the curriculum, ensuring that we remain on the leading edge of education. Our graduates are developing essential skills for tomorrow’s workforce leaders, such as the practical problem-solving and solution-finding taught in design thinking. We are also actively pursuing federal grants, and a recent example of a wonderful win is the National Endowment for the Humanities grant to our sport studies program for our initiative, 'Sport Studies in the 21st Century: Amplifying the Latinx Experience in Curricula, Conversation, and Community.'”
