Doubling Down
A technology packaging company recommits itself to Westchester.
A New Vision
Packaging Technologies & Inspection (PTI) is the leading manufacturer of non-destruc- tive package inspection tech- nologies for the pharmaceutical, medi- cal device and food industries. The company offers inspection systems for package leak testing, seal integrity and container closure integrity testing.
After growing in Tuckahoe for 30 years, the company relocated within the County to a new 15,000 square- foot expanded headquarters and man- ufacturing facility at 8 Skyline Drive in Hawthorne. Here, CEO Oliver Stauffer talks about:
PTI’s core business. PTI designs and develops leading edge inspection technologies for high-risk packaging applications in the pharmaceutical, medical device and food industries. PTI’s solutions are installed around the
world with validated test methods that are globally transferrable.
The company’s workforce and client base. PTI is a team of engineers, scientists and professionals serving the global biotech and healthcare indus- tries in their pursuit of quality. Our cli- ents are 50 percent based in the U.S. and 50 percent global.
Staying in Westchester. After 25 years in a 7,000 square-foot space in Tuckahoe, we realized that we need- ed more room. We vetted different locations across the County. Here in Westchester, we enjoy an educated workforce and proximity to the airport. Both our old location and our new one are near four highways. We didn’t lose a single employee to the move.
The economic benefits of being in the County. We have a tax credit with the Empire State Development Corporation, which has been tied to the growth of our company. We learned about it from the Business Council of Westchester. Westchester has always been a great place to do business. The County is committed to pursuing a healthy biotech industry.
Help from the BCW. The Business Council of Westchester has always been very receptive. If I have questions, I can rely on the BCW for consultation or to connect me with the right people and the right experience to speak with.
Seeqc
Elmsford-based technology com- pany Seeqc (pronounced “Seek”) is developing the first digital quantum
computing platform for global busi- nesses. Combining classical and quan- tum technologies, the company looks to address the efficiency, stability and cost issues endemic to quantum com- puting systems.
“Seeqc’s quantum system provides the energy- and cost-efficiency, speed and digital control required to make quantum computing useful,” says Seeqc CEO John Levy, “this technol- ogy is positioning us to bring the first commercially-scalable, problem-spe- cific quantum computing applications to market.”
A spin-out of Hypres, the world’s leading developer of superconductor electronics, Seeqc received $600,000 from Empire State Development to ex- pand its advanced chip manufacturing and testing infrastructure and facilities in order to produce qubits, the basic elements of a quantum computer, for the purposes of building application- specific quantum systems.
Westchester’s IT Landscape
Employing more than 14,000 profes- sionals, Westchester is home to 900- plus technology companies, including:
IBM (Armonk), a long-time indus- try leader, offers a host of cloud-based, cognitive, data and analytics, IT and in- frastructure, and security products.
MasterCard Labs (Purchase) cre- ates leading-edge payment technolo- gies for consumers and enterprises.
Ask Applications (Yonkers) pro- duces a host of browser applications, desktop utilities and apps such as MapsGalaxy and Gaming Wonderland.
“Shorter and easier commutes help our employees to access a more healthy lifestyle. We didn’t lose a single employee to the move.” —PTI CEO Oliver Stauffer
