The financial, business and professional services sector
is among Baltimore County’s largest. More than 90,000 workers are employed in this sector altogether, and the county’s financial services workforce represents 20% of the entire state’s employment in that industry.
Global investment-management firm
T. Rowe Price, Bank of America and Toyota Financial Services are just some of the major employers taking advantage of the county’s deep talent pool and easy access to major financial markets like New York and Washington, DC. They employ 4,200, 748 and 560 people respectively, according to the Baltimore County Department of Economic and Workforce Development.
Baltimore County has traditionally served as a major location for corporate headquarters and branch office operations in the professional/business services sector. That’s due in part to the area’s robust landscape of corporate headquarters, large hospitals and
major government operations, which provides fertile ground for businesses supporting the efficient operation of other businesses.
Prominent employers include the law firm Venable, the insurer CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, benefit manager Kelly Benefits, government contractor General Dynamics and consulting firm Accenture.
