The third film in this year’s Italian Film Series, “In Guerra per Amore,” (“At War for Love”) will be shown at 3 p.m. March 22 in the Padua Academy Grade School Ballad Room, 10th and Scott streets, Wilmington.
The 2016 film concerns Arturo, who emigrated to the United States, where he
fell in love with a beautiful Italian girl who unfortunately has been promised to the son of a Mafia boss. Arturo decides that he must go back to Sicily to ask the girl’s father for her hand, but he has no money for the trip. The only way he can reach Italy is to enlist in the American Army, which is getting ready to invade Sicily.
The director, Pierfrancesco DiLiberto, has included some actual facts in the “classified” information of the romantic comedy.
Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 (tax-deductible) and include a themed meal created by chef Joann Dell’Aversano. The screening will be introduced by University of Delaware professor Gabriella Finizio. The event is a fundraiser for the Delaware Italian Language Summer Camp.
Sponsors include the Delaware Italian- American Education Association, Delaware Commission on Italian Language and Culture, 1450 WILM Radio Italian, Rosa Food Products and Serpe & Sons Bakery. IAH

  UNICO Delaware plans events

Italian-American Herald
REHOBOTH BEACH – The weather has been unseasonably mild this year, yet families and individuals continue to be cold and hungry.
There are many organizations that are exceedingly generous during the holidays, but as
the days grow shorter and
the temperatures decline, we return to our daily routine and often forget those in need.
Donated food and baked goods fill the St. Joseph’s Table every year.

For members of UNICO
the month of March provides
an opportunity to celebrate the feast of St. Joseph (March 19), and to continue the age-old Italian tradition, in his honor, of caring for the needy and homeless.
On March 19, a special altar “La Tavola di San Giuseppe” will be placed near the main altar in St. Edmond Church, filled with donations of non-perishable food items, bread and rolls, to be blessed and distributed to those in need. However, in Italy , the food is prepared, and one is invited to eat heartily and take what remains with them.
Each year, here in Delaware, Nicola Pizza in Rehoboth Beach and Old World Breads in Lewes donate fresh-baked rolls and loaves of bread to enhance the event. During the celebration of morning Mass (or directly after), on March 19, the donations are blessed and the bread, called il Pane di San Giuseppe – St. Joseph’s Bread, is offered
to area residents attending the Mass, to take home and share with family and friends. The remaining bread and non-perishable food items are then brought to local food pantries and shelters.
On Sunday, March 22, the St. Joseph’s Day celebration and outreach program will continue, as UNICO members and friends prepare zeppole (a special Saint Joseph’s Day treat) and other Italian baked goods ( cakes, cookies, holiday breads, etc.) to be sold after each of the morning Masses (8 a.m. to noon). Proceeds of this sale will be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society which assists area residents with utility bills, food and clothing, as needed, throughout the year.
All are invited to participate in these events. IAH
