PER I BAMBINI
Sara’s enjoying spring flowers
By Melissa Cannavo-Marino
Quando arriva la primavera tutti avranno la voglia di andare fuori! (When spring arrives everyone will
want to be outside!)
Anch’io! (Me too!) Adesso mamma
o nonna mi portano più spesso per una passeggiata e mentre siamo in giro annuso
il profumo bello dei fiori. Ci sono fiori dappertutto! (Now mamma or nonna take me for walks more often and while we are walking around I smell the scent of beautiful flowers. There are flowers everywhere!) Gli italiani addobbano le loro case e i loro terreni con tanti fiori. (Italians decorate their houses and their land with many flowers). Lasciami dirvi i miei fiori preferiti. (Let me tell you about my favorite flowers.)
Quando siamo andati in Toscana ho guardato fuori la finestra e ho visto campi e campi pieni dei bei girasoli. Si chiamano girasoli perche i loro fiori si rivolgono verso il sole durante la giornata. (When we went
to Tuscany I looked out the window and saw fields and fields full of sunflowers. They are called sunflowers because they turn
to face the sun during the day.) C’erano anche papaveri rossi. (There were also red poppies.)
A Frosinone, passeggiando
sulla strada Via Aldo Moro, ho
annusato il bel profumo del
Bougainvillea e Gelsomino.
(In Frosinone, walking along
the street Via Aldo Moro, I
smelled the beautiful scent of Bougainvillea and jasmine.)
Per me il posto più speciale
con tanti fiori bellissimi è La
Scalinata Piazza di Spagna. For
me the most special place with
beautiful flowers is the Spanish
Steps in Rome. Posso sedermi
per ore, godando i colori vibranti
e guardando tutta le gente sorridente. Tutti godano l’arrivo della primavera! (I can sit for hours enjoying the vibrant colors and watching all the smiling people. Everyone is
enjoying the arrival of spring!)
Do you have a favorite place to smell
flowers? Do you have a favorite flower? Spero di si! (I hope so!)
P.S. Here’s a little trick to help you read
Italian. You might notice I have some words in boldface. They are words that are very similar in Italian and English with just some small differences in their spelling. Ciao! Alla prossima! Sara. IAH
