Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Ocean City Walk/Run
A pink tide will be washing over the shores that reach from the Wilmington Riverfront all the way to Ocean City, Maryland’s boardwalk this October. Thousands of breast cancer survivors, caregivers and supporters decked out in pink will create a
tidal wave of support and fundraising to help save lives with the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Plus, this year Avon joins Making Strides as the national presenting sponsor.
A ROSY MISSION
For Making Strides supporters, the fight against breast cancer has a rosy outlook. Here’s the progress being made, in large part thanks to the Making Strides movement, which is the largest breast cancer awareness network in the United States, with
1 million participants and more than 200 Making Strides events every year. Join them in Wilmington and Ocean City.
• More than 14 million Making Strides walkers across the country have raised $870 million since 1993, helping 3.5 million breast cancer survivors celebrate another year.
• The breast cancer death rate is down 38 percent since 1989.
• That means almost 300,000 lives have been saved from breast cancer.
• $62 million is currently invested in breast cancer grants through the American Cancer Society.
• Our 24/7 help line (800) ACS-2345 handled more than 1.2 million calls last year for all kinds of cancer.
COME CELEBRATE, REMEMBER AND FIGHT BACK AGAINST BREAST CANCER!
“Because of the determination of Making Strides supporters, the American Cancer Society is there for people in every community on the Eastern Shore and in Delaware affected by breast cancer, whether you’re currently dealing with a diagnosis, may face it in the future or could possibly avoid it because of education and risk reduction that we can help with,” says Mary Bellis, Senior Community Development Manager for Making Strides of Ocean City.
“At Making Strides events, our communities embrace a bittersweet mix of purpose—celebrating survivorship and paying tributes to loved ones lost. The camaraderie and spirit are amazing. From research to education, prevention to diagnosis and treatment to recovery, we provide support to everyone impacted by breast cancer,” says Shaun Gines, Senior Community Development Manager for the American Cancer Society.
