WESTCHESTER WORKS HEALTHCARE
BUILDING
A HEALTHY REGION
With ongoing expansion and new construction projects, Westchester continues to enjoy world-class medical care close to home.
Montefiore continues its expansion into Westchester, and now operates nine health facilities in the county. White Plains Hospital, a member of the Monte- fiore Health System, has opened a state of the art cancer center.
Expanding its presence in West- chester, ColumbiaDoctors unveiled a 20,000 s/f medical facility in Tarrytown that expands services and brings more of New York’s leading specialists and sub- specialists to the region.
New York-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville opened a new cancer center and is planning renova- tions at Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Peekskill.
NorthWell Health now operates Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, as well as Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco.
WESTMED Medical Group opened an 85,000-square-foot medical office building at 3030 Westchester Ave. That project marked the first time in more than 25 years a new office building was constructed along the I-287 corridor.
In West Harrison, a former Ve- rizon building became a branch of the
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center by converting the 114,000- square-foot complex into a $143 million cancer center.
THE WMCHEALTH AMBULATORY CARE PAVILION
One of the most significant healthcare delivery developments came from the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), whose flagship facility, Westchester Medical Center, has been part of the county’s healthcare landscape for decades.
Site preparation is underway for the Ambulatory Care Pavilion, a $230-mil- lion, 280,000 square-foot facility ad- jacent to Westchester Medical Center on its Valhalla campus, and the largest healthcare construction project in recent memory. The construction was financed by the Westchester County Local Devel- opment Corporation (LDC), an agency created by Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino, which makes tax-ex- empt financing available to not-for-profit institutions at no risk to taxpayers.
The dramatic, eight-story steel and glass Ambulatory Care Pavilion will include 185,000 square feet of ambulatory care service space, including an Advanced Imaging Center, Ambulatory Surgery Center and Heart and Vascular Insti- tute. The pavilion will also include a 20,000-square-foot private-room expan- sion for Westchester Medical Center, plus another 75,000 square feet for phy- sician offices. It is expected to generate 180 new, full-time jobs, as well as 225 prevailing wage construction jobs.
“As the area’s leading provider of healthcare services with a growing net- work of 10 hospitals on eight campuses and a workforce of more than 12,000 people, WMCHealth’s commitment to Westchester County and the Hudson Val- ley region has never been stronger,” said WMCHealth President and CEO Michael D. Israel. “Our mission is to provide area residents with the highest quality of care as close to their homes as possible, and the investment in an ambulatory care hub on our Valhalla campus will help us fulfill that promise to local residents.”
“We are extremely proud to have had the LDC assist with this project,” says Westchester County Executive Rob- ert P. Astorino. “The LDC was created to provide assistance to not-for-profits to continue their missions in our commu- nity and this project will enhance medi- cal services and care for the Westchester and surrounding communities for many years to come.”
