                                 CHEFS WITH PEDIGREE

There is no shortage of next-level chefs in Westchester, with venerated celebrity chefs among them.
Perhaps best
known for his
appearance on
reality TV’s
Iron Chef
America,
Chef David
Burke recently
opened his first
Westchester restaurant in White Plains. Red Horse by David Burke is a modern American steak house with Asian flare, where steaks are dry-aged via a patented Himalayan salt process
and thick-cut bacon hangs from kitschy table- top clotheslines.
When he’s not on network TV morning shows, Chef David DiBari can be found at his Dobbs Ferry
restaurants, pushing the boundaries
of neo-nostalgic Italian cooking
— carving roasted whole
pigs at The Cookery or slinging artisan
pizzas at The Parlor.
Self-taught Chef Peter Kelly, revered for appearing on reality TV to beat Bobby Flay (he did), presides over the glass-wrapped X2O Xaviars on the Hudson in Yonkers, occupying a lofty perch on the only Victorian pier still in use on the Hudson River. The view
is as mesmerizing as his whopping signature cowboy ribeye for two.
At Tarrytown’s modern, artfully adorned Goosefeather, James Beard- nominated Chef Dale Talde takes traditional Cantonese staples of meat, fish, noodles, and vegetables, and whips them into uber-creative, crowd-pleasing dishes. Don’t miss his fancified rendition of potstickers, stuffed with dry-aged beef.
Veteran restaurateur
and cookbook author,
Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten helms The Inn at Pound Ridge by Jean-Georges, delighting diners with locally sourced, seasonal farm-to-table cuisine in rustic-chic surrounds warmed by 19th- century fireplaces.
Chef Christian Petroni first made a name for himself as the chef behind the wood-fired pizza mini-empire Fortina, with popular locations
in Armonk, Rye Brook, Yonkers, and Stamford. Petroni rose to celebrity chef status as the 2018 winner
of Food Network Star and also appeared on Top Chef Australia and Guy’s Grocery Games with Guy Fieri.
Another Westchester powerhouse is Chef Anthony Goncalves, who heads
up the kitchen at Kanopi. Fueled by his connection
to Portugal and inspired by the heritage of locally and globally sourced ingredients, Goncalves is known for his elegant tasting menus.
MICHELIN NODS
Not a year goes by without Michelin recognizing a handful of Westchester’s top restaurants. The latest additions to the acclaimed guide are:
Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills holds two coveted stars for its superb farm-to-fork fare culled from its own fields, gardens, and nearby pastures.
Steeped in 19th-century history, The Abbey Inn & Spa in Peekskill beckons with 42 finely appointed guest rooms and Apropos, a striking fine-dining venue guided by a strong farm-to-table ethos and an executive chef who crafts unforgettable pastas and elevated American mains.
Irvington’s Chutney Masala boasts a culinary-schooled Indian chef turning out classic curries and traditional tandoori plates plus taste- tempting street food.
Augustine’s Salumeria
in Mamaroneck offers
a modern riff on Italian comfort classics like silky hand-crafted pastas and ethically raised meats.
Upscale village hotspot La Casa Bronxville lures diners with sustainably sourced Mexican fare that skews homegrown.
A Bedford staple for nearly six decades, La Crémaillère presents classic French cuisine with a fresh,
modern take in an exquisite European farmhouse setting.
Town House in New Rochelle scores points for its eclectic lineup of small plates and mains with an unmistakable foodie edge.
