CARAMOOR CENTER FOR MUSIC & THE ARTS As expansive as it is multifaceted, Caramoor is a kaleidoscope of the arts in Westchester. The expertly manicured 100-acre estate is home to The Rosen House, a Mediterranean-style mansion that founders Lucie and Walter Rosen created
as a hub for all expressions of music. Step inside this
time capsule to behold art and furnishings from the Renaissance, Chinese art, and entire rooms styled from the great houses of Western Europe. A repertoire of everything from jazz to classical to American songbook treats audiences
to unforgettable concert experiences — particularly in the Venetian Theater or the Sunken Garden.
INSIDER TIP: Indulge in afternoon tea at The Rosen House’s Music Room, which includes a self-guided tour with the price of admission.
CROTON GORGE PARK
Sprawling across 97 bucolic acres, the park’s crown jewel is the New Croton Dam, which stands over
LYNDHURST MANSION
Over nearly two centuries, the walls of Lyndhurst Mansion have housed jazz concerts, balls, and even
the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Designed in 1838, the French Gothic Revival estate overlooks the Hudson River, its turrets and stained-glass windows dazzling like a castle preserved in the middle of suburbia. The grounds are so striking that Forbes rated Lyndhurst one of the most
beautiful mansions in the country. Formerly the home of railroad tycoon Jay Gould and elaborately decorated with Gilded Age flourishes, visitors can roam the expertly preserved library, bowling alley, and grand picture gallery.
INSIDER TIP: For an
extra element of spooky
and authentic, take the “Lyndhurst After Dark” tour to delve into Victorian lore and explore the mansion draped in candlelight.
