5 THE COMEBACK OF LIVE THEATER. Delco’s stages are ready to emerge from their COVID-enforced hibernation! Colonial Playhouse Theater in Aldan and The Players Club of Swarthmore have already announced their schedules for the fall/winter season. As of this writing, Media Theatre, Hedgerow Theatre and the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center were still firming up their plans, but stay tuned for news on each venue’s website!
COVID PRECAUTIONS. At the time of
publication, infection control measures
in Delco and the Greater Philadelphia region were still changing frequently. Many attractions, businesses and events have been impacted and,
in some cases, cancelled or closed. Visitors are strongly encouraged to call or check websites
to confirm operating status. Wear a mask whenever possible (especially indoors) and keep a minimum of six feet between yourself and others.
DELCO STEAKS. Philadelphia magazine has made it official — the best cheese-steaks in the Philly region are at
home right here in Delco. Delco Steaks in Broomall serves up two-footers made with Pennsylvania-raised, hormone- and antibiotic-free beef. Not to mention, the gooey, cheesy goodness on top is another local legend, Cooper Sharp! More good news: Delco Steaks is working to open new locations in Media and Folsom.
VETERANS DAY PARADE. The Annual Delaware County Veterans Day Parade in Media is widely regarded as the largest
in the region — if not the state. The parade always culminates with a ceremony in front of the Delaware County Courthouse. It’s a true taste of Americana that also honors our nation’s most selfless citizens.
MARE OF EASTTOWN. The hit HBO series is set in Delco and was filmed here too! British actress Kate Winslet plays the protagonist, Mare, and we’ve been buzzing about how well she
captured the Delco accent — what the Los Angeles Times calls our “distinctive patois.” (Even the movies’ most famous Philadelphian, Rocky, sounds like a New Yorker, so hearing a real Philly-area accent on-screen was a rare treat.) We loved seeing local faces and places too, but most of all, we enjoyed all the local goodies that made it onto the show, from Wawa coffee and hoagies to Herr’s potato chips.
