Thias sleek new gathering spot at Pleasantville’s Jacob Burns Film Center elevates the theatergoing experience. BY MICHELLE GILLAN LARKIN

succeed business books, “come early, stay late” is not typically associated with a
trip to the movies, but it’s the explicit intent of Take 3 Wine Bar & Café, which opened in April at the Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) in Pleasantville. Situated on the third (top) floor of the nonprofit arts and entertainment hub housed in a historic 1925 Spanish-mission- style landmark, Take 3 offers
a sophisticated and friendly space for moviegoers of all ages to slow down and settle in with a locally sourced sip or snack either before or after seeing a show.
The thoughtfully curated menu of gourmet light bites features fresh salads, soups, and sandwiches, along with cheese and charcuterie plates from Pleasantville’s Second Mouse Cheese Shop (located across the street from the theater), baked goods, and chocolate-dipped pretzels from Tarrytown’s Posh Pretzels. Naturally, popcorn is also
on the menu—drizzled with chocolate or caramel.
At the chic, stainless-
steel bar, craft beer is from Pleasantville’s Soul Brewing Company and Captain Lawrence in Elmsford, along with a variety of fine wines
by the glass and cider from Thompson’s Cider Mill in Croton-on-Hudson. Non- alcoholic drinks include kombucha from Peekskill’s Feel Good Booch, chocolate milk, and coffee from Irving Farm based in Millerton and NYC.
Airy and elegant with a laidback vibe, Take 3 was designed by JBFC Board Member Laureen Barber, co-owner and designer of Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Tarrytown. The industrial modern space—blonde
wood, rustic exposed brick, oversized windows, and walls adorned with rotating art exhibits—can seat up to 85 people. On display through the end of August is an exhibit of iconic movie posters (Casablanca, Deliverance, and The Exorcist) from the private collection of the late movie- poster designer Bill Gold.

Take 3 is open to both the public and theatergoers alike on (at press time) Friday and Saturday, noon to 10 p.m., and Thursday, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
